A bit unpolished, but well worth your time
Open Panzer is a faithful and thoroughly enjoyable recreation of the PC classic Panzer General II. It hits on all of the key points, namely engaging tactical combat and a persistent core of units that gain experience over the course of a campaign. The graphics are outstanding, especially considering this is a one-man project. The sprites are fairly detailed, which makes units relatively easy to distinguish.
However, the transition from browser to native app is somewhat hit-or-miss. While it beats playing OP on iPad through Safari, the touch interface is a tad wonky and UI scaling (which is absolutely necessary, especially if youre using retina resolution) is a little buggy. Some of the issues of the browser iteration I was hoping a native app would rectify--notably, the ability to scroll "off the map"--have carried over as well.
I would also note that the game is very much a work-in-progress: the dev makes frequent updates that both squash bugs and add content. Notably, the full German grand campaign is missing from the iOS version, which currently has only the invasion of Poland and U.S. campaign.
Overall, I highly recommend this to any fan of PG or operational-level wargaming in general.
